"You might have noticed that everyone loves kittens... and puppies... and bunnies. You know, cute fluffy things. But nobody loves a slightly hairy, I suppose a bit googly eyed monster." - Love Monster by Rachel Bright
This endearing story is about a "funny looking" monster who lives in Cutesville. Although his search for love comes up short, when he least expects it, love finds him. If you're planning to celebrate Valentine's Day in your classroom this year, I propose a day of MONSTROUS Fun! If you don't already own the book, grab it on Amazon HERE and check out the featured activities below for a LOVE MONSTER DAY!
Love Monster Literacy Set & Craftivity
This companion literacy set has some great extensions for the book Love Monster! In this set you'll find book discussion cards, a Love Monster writing craftivity (pictured above), retell graphic organizer, and adjective/noun sort (whole group & independent).
These monster love notes are also included for students to write a love note to a friend or family member. Grab the Book Social Love Monster set HERE.
Let your students have some fun building their OWN Love Monsters with playdoh! These playdoh kits are a great alternative to candy! Each student can build their own LOVE monster, create a Monster ID card, write about their LOVE MONSTER, and brainstorm MONSTROUS ways to show LOVE all year long on a graphic organizer. This activity set makes for a fun addition to your Valentine's Day party or send it home as a special gift! Grab it HERE
Review CVC words with this fun monster themed Scoot Game! Place one card on each desk. Set your timer for 1 minute. Students take their Scoot sheet to each desk and unscramble the mixed up CVC word. Once the timer is up, they SCOOT to the next seat!! Grab your copy HERE
Monster Math (FREEBIE from Michelle Hudgeons)
This monster themed FREEBIE from Michelle Hudgeons is a fun way to practice addition and subtraction to 10 & 20. Who says Monsters are only fun at Halloween ;) Grab it HERE
Monster Apple Snacks
These adorable snacks from ParentingChaos could easily be made with RED apples to look like Love Monsters! I love these because they are healthy and FUN! Make them in advance or better yet, elect a room parent to help! Another option, if you are short on time, make them together as a class! You can even incorporate a How-To Writing from it!
